Clew hook1/6/2024 Traverses/uphill catwalks are no longer an issue. No more wasted time for stopping after getting off a chair lift to strap in!!! I'm 6ft, 200lbs, log 60+ days a season in Colorado (typical day being 10-20 runs), have been snowboarding for over 30 years, and tend to ride a little bit of everything leaning more towards all mountain (steeps, trees, bumps, hike-to, smaller cliffs/drops, and Mach-chicken groomers) while spending less and less time in the park but will still hit mellow rails, side hits, and smaller jumps. Used to do everything in my power to avoid taking a foot out on some traverse, but now I just take the foot out, skate for a bit to build up speed, then strap back in without loosing any momentum. I've logged 50 days on my Clew bindings and so far so good! Definitely like the ease and quickness of "strapping in" when getting off the lift, but the true game changer is being able to handle long catwalks or runouts. Is there better bindings out there? Of course! There’s a lot to choose from and all depending on your riding style and it really just boils down to convenience. I’m excited to try it out and the main reason why I got Clew is the ease of getting in and out the bindings and not spending an additional $300+ on Burton boots on top of $400+ on the Step On bindings itself. They point out the obvious which is “it’s heavy” but then recommend Supermatics which is slightly heavier than Clews by 0.4lbs. Most of the things I’ve read on Reddit that dislikes Clew are usually from people who don’t own Clew bindings and lot of hearsay. I heard mostly but good things about it and I’ve done my research. With that being said, I just preordered my Clew bindings. I spent almost $100 to update my Burton bindings with newer hammock ankle straps (Doubletake) and toe straps. Best thing about traditional bindings (or Burton binding in my case) is that you can buy replacement parts from Burton. The older they get, the more brittle they become. I own a couple of older Burton Cartel bindings, one is from 2012 and my other one is 2018. I'd rather sit on my ass for a minute and strap in if it means I get a better ride. All these step ons have severe trade-offs.
